Brennan Wilder

Brennan is a choreographer, hip hop dancer, and freelance performer. After moving to Los Angeles in 2009, she performed on the professional hip hop dance crew AXXENT during season five of MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew. Her work has been featured in many music videos and web series. During her time in LA, she was also invited to be a part of the CNE Irish Step Dance Company and Bollywood Express Dance Company. She is an artist and performer at the renowned ‘Performatica’ conference in Cholula, Mexico and has also performed in London and Japan. Along with Ly, she has taught a series of show choir workshops with the Queensland Show Choir in Australia.

Her experiences have led her to train in many different art forms, including House, Bollywood, Somatic Modern, Noh, Kabuki, and the intriguing dance style of Butoh from Kazuo Ohno himself. Throughout the year, she travels choreographing and adjudicating for middle school, high school, and college show choirs and has completed five college dance residencies. Last year, she began a new adventure at Fairview Elementary School and will continue to teach dance and show choir every day as part of their performing arts curriculum this year. Brennan received her BA in Theatre/Dance and Psychology from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.

Ly Wilder

As a contemporary vocal artist and educator, Ly Wilder exhibits an infectious energy and knowledge of style and technique that engages students and audiences alike in jazz and popular music. She has been featured as a vocalist with combos, big bands, orchestras, as a studio singer for choral demos, and as a performer at Walt Disney World, having sung with legendary artists Joe Williams, Rosemary Clooney, Dianne Reeves, and Diane Schuur. A prolific arranger, Wilder’s works have been performed by university and high school groups worldwide.

Ly is in demand as an adjudicator/clinician for ensembles and festivals throughout the nation and around the world (Australia, Canada, and China). She has conducted All-State Vocal Jazz Ensembles and Show Choirs in Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, Mississippi, Illinois, Indiana, Oklahoma, Washington, and Wisconsin. Ly has taught on the staff of Showchoir Camps of America since 2003 and at the Steve Zegree Vocal Jazz Camp. She serves as the Vocal Director of Bloomington Expressive Arts Training (BEAT), which she co-founded with choreographer Brennan Wilder in 2012. Under their direction, this extracurricular community show choir program has expanded to feature eight ensembles (including Syncopation and Amplitude) with students from pre-K through 12th grades.

Wilder served as the interim director of the Singing Hoosiers and the private voice instructor for the IU Jazz Voice Studio at Indiana University. Prior to this, she taught vocal jazz, women’s, and mixed choirs at Purdue University. She holds a BM in Studio Music and Jazz from the University of Miami and a MM in Jazz Studies from Western Michigan University. She and Brennan reside in Bloomington, IN with their daughter, Jamie.

Becky Mann

Director – Synchronicity; Co-Director – Mini-Sync; Assistant Director – Syncopation; Guitar – BEAT Band

Becky Mann is a recent graduate of Indiana University, graduating with a degree in Jewish Sacred Music and a minor in general music. She serves as a vocal director of Mini-Sync and Synchronicity, assistant director of Syncopation, and guitarist in the BEAT Band. Aside from her work with BEAT, Becky has spent several summers working as the music specialist at Summit Ridge Day Camp in Las Vegas, NV. She currently works as an assistant teacher at Gan Shalom Preschool, the music teacher at Temple Beth Shalom, and an Artful Learning teacher at Fairview Elementary School where she directs a 3rd grade show choir.


Kevin Rudzinski

Visual Director & Co-Choreographer – Revelation; Co-Choreographer – Synchronicity; Co-Director – DanceWERKS; Dance Captain & Choreographer Assistant – Amplitude/Syncopation

Kevin is a senior at Indiana University majoring in theatre and drama. A varsity member of the Singing Hoosiers, Kevin has performed across the Midwest, and even internationally in Australia! Kevin has also been involved in various musicals through Cardinal Stage Company and Indiana University’s University Players. He has choreographed for many different musical productions and show choirs, and this year he will serve as the varsity choreographer of the Singing Hoosiers. This is his third year with the BEAT ensembles, and he can’t wait to make more great memories!

Kathryn Sherman

Kathryn is a vocalist, arranger, and educator originally from the Seattle area. A recent graduate of Indiana University’s Jazz Studies program, she has studied with Dr. Steve Zegree, Ly Wilder, Darmon Meader, Duane Davis, and Jeremy Fox. She has performed as a member of IU Vocal Jazz Ensemble 1, the Singing Hoosiers, and several student combos, having her arrangements premiered by these groups as well. Her hobbies include hiking, drinking coffee, and playing soccer. This is her fourth year working with BEAT and she can’t wait to continue learning and growing alongside these incredible kids!

Athena Kopulos

Athena is a junior at Indiana University majoring in Theatre and Drama and minoring in dance. Since moving from Chicago to Bloomington, she has performed with IU Theatre, Cardinal Stage Company, the Bloomington Playwrights Project, and the IU Singing Hoosiers. In addition to Mini-Sync, she choreographs for the Columbus North Stars. Athena is so excited to share music and love with some amazing young performers this year!

Janie is a senior at Indiana University studying Musical Theatre. She is excited for her first year with the BEAT program! Show choir has been a huge part of Janie’s life ever since high school, where she served as dance captain for the award-winning FC Singers. Janie was a member of the IU Singing Hoosiers and Varsity Singers for two years, and performs regularly with IU Theatre. Each summer you can find her at Show Choir Camps of America as a camp counselor! Janie feels incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to watch these young performers grow and find joy through song and dance. She is from Indianapolis, Indiana.

Maddy is excited to spend her second year with the BEAT family and her third year at IU Blomington! Former dance captain of the award-winning North Central Counterpoints, Maddy has continued her show choir journey as a member of the Singing Hoosiers and the Varsity Singers at IU. She also has returned to Showchoir Camps of America as a counselor after spending multiple summers as a camper.When she’s not singing and dancing, Maddy loves to explore the outdoors; she canoed 72 miles down the Rio Grande! Some of her favorite things are ice cream, Victorian houses and four legged creatures (especially cows and dogs)! She cannot wait to work with Synchronicity this year and looks forward to returning to Sync and Amp for more excellent music making!

Brian McCallister

Drums – BEAT Band (Spring Semester)

From Buffalo Grove, Illinois, Brian McCallister is a senior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies with a concentration in voice at the IU Jacobs School of Music. Brian has shared the stage with legends such as Bobby McFerrin, Kurt Elling, Ben Folds, Janis Siegel, and Darmon Meader in the past two years. In the same time Brian has been a part of the Grammy Nominated Singing Hoosiers, the Downbeat Award winning IU Vocal Jazz Ensemble 1, and the African American Choral Ensemble. Brian just returned from a semester spent in Vienna, Austria studying opera with vocal pedagogue and Vienna State Opera House sensation, Paullete Vineyard Herbich, mezzo-soprano. At IU, Brian is currently studying with Timothy Noble, Darmon Meader, and Tierney Sutton.

Alex Berko

Alex is currently a senior pursuing a degree in Composition and Piano with a certificate in Music Entrepreneurship at IU. Growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, he attended the Cleveland Institute of Music preparatory department for Composition, Piano, and Theory training. Alex was also a member and vice president of the Solon High School show choir “Music in Motion” and has sung in various choirs at IU. He is thrilled to be a part of the BEAT family and share his love of music!

Catherine Barker

Catherine Barker is a junior at Bloomington High School North and is excited to be participating in her sixth year in the BEAT program. She has been a part of Syncopation and Amplitude, as well as having been a TA for Synchronicity previously for two years. Catherine studied ballet for 9 years in the IU Pre-College Ballet Program and has performed multiple roles in the IU Ballet Theater’s production of The Nutcracker. She is involved in musical theater in the community, most recently in the cast of West Side Story with Cardinal Stage Company over the summer and as Hope Cladwell in BHSN Theater’s production of Urinetown last spring. She was also in the cast of Annie with Cardinal Stage Company in 2011. Catherine studied modern dance and hip hop with BEAT co-director Brennan Wilder, for whom she also served as a teaching assistant at Windfall Dance Studio and the Bedford High School and Edgewood Middle School show choir programs. She has attended Showchoir Camps of America for five years, during which she was in the Advanced Dance Ensemble for the most recent two. Catherine studied violin in the IU String Academy for 6 years and is currently taking voice lessons with Sue Swaney. In addition to performing arts, Catherine is active at BHSN where she participates in Student Council, Cougar Leaders, Habitat For Humanity, and National Honor Society. She is incredibly grateful to her family, friends, and most importantly her dog Jazzy, without whom she would never be where she is today.

Frances Sheets

Teaching Assistant – Synchronicity

Frances Sheets, a six year member of BEAT, is a junior at Bloomington High School North. This is her third year as a teaching assistant for Synchronicity, and she is excited for another year of growth and opportunity. Outside of BEAT, Frances is an avid reader, writer, and photographer. She is also a member of the BHSN Student Council Executive Board and the BHSN school newspaper, Fused.

Jamie Tartell

Jamie is a senior at Bloomington High School North. Through North, Jamie has participated in National Honor Society, Latin Honor Society, Latin Club, United Students, and the BHSN Choir Program. Through BEAT, Jamie has been a part of both Syncopation and Amplitude for the past six years. Jamie is ecstatic to be a TA for BEAT’s Mini-Sync for the fourth year in a row! Jamie cannot wait to work with some of the best kids in Bloomington in the upcoming year.

Olivia Dickens

Olivia is a student at Jackson Creek Middle School. She has a dog and three cats, and her hobbies include dancing, singing, shopping, and acting. She has two younger sisters, one of whom is in Synchronicity. Olivia loves ice cream and pizza, and is not a morning person.
